The enzyme that breaks down histamine.*
The recommended dosage of this carefully formulated supplement is 1 VegCap three times daily, delivering 4.2 mg of diamine oxidase (DAO) per serving.
Research often recommends taking DAO Enzyme around 15 minutes before a meal to support dietary histamine breakdown. You can take DAO before a meal up to three times per day.
In general, most people feel some benefits of DAO Enzyme within a few weeks when the full dose is taken 15 minutes before a meal for at least 14 days, depending on individual health status.*
Research indicates a link between histamine intolerance concerns and low DAO activity. To determine how much DAO is naturally present in your gastrointestinal tract, a blood test can be used to check your DAO enzyme levels.
To check your DAO level, contact your healthcare provider to schedule a blood test that measures serum DAO concentration.
Alcohol and foods that are high in histamine, such as fish, mature cheeses, cured meats, and some fruits and vegetables, have been linked to inhibited DAO activity. See question 4 for a more detailed list of foods with high histamine content.
Foods with high histamine content include wine and beer, fish (especially canned fish products and fatty fish like tuna, salmon, or mackerel), matured and semi-hard cheeses, cured meats, citrus fruits, strawberries, and some vegetables including tomatoes, sauerkraut, and spinach.
DAO enzymes are naturally present in the gastrointestinal tract. A supplement containing diamine oxidase (DAO) can introduce additional DAO enzymes that help the body break down histamine.

"I have Histamine Intolerance, and have tried several different DAO enzyme products over the last several years, along with modifying my diet to limit both high histamine foods and histamine liberators. All of this moved the needle somewhat , but not as much as I'd hoped for. I decided to try Solary's DAO Enzyme a few months back, and it really has made a significant difference. Much less bloating, and I am even able to bring back some foods that I had eliminated for so long. A game changer!"
