Sustainable Manufacturing
We create supplements that help you Live Brighter with the help of a relatively large manufacturing facility. Manufacturing in general can take toll on the environment, but it doesn’t have to—in fact, industry can be eco-friendly. That’s our goal at Solaray. We developed our campus in Ogden, Utah, with the Earth top of mind. And we continue to strive for sustainability in our day-to-day operations, always looking for ways to better care for this planet we all call home.
Reduce Through Reuse
When it came time to expand our manufacturing capabilities, instead of constructing new buildings from the ground up, which would have required immense natural resources, we chose to recycle on a grand scale: We reconditioned a former military base from the 1940s—bringing it from the past into the present. Today, it is a modern, state-of-the-art facility that meets all our needs, while offering beautiful views of the very Wasatch Mountains on our labels to boot.
Vertical Integration
As soon as we saw the Ogden location, we knew it was perfect: It had enough room to house our research, quality assurance, and production teams as well as to stock our raw materials, testing equipment, and all finished products. As a vertically integrated company, we handle multiple aspects of manufacturing under one roof (or in our unique case, multiple connected roofs), which allows us to significantly reduce production-related travel emissions.
The Power to Do Good
Solaray recently began installing solar panels at our manufacturing headquarters. Currently, we have a 125kW photovoltaic array up and producing, harnessing the sun’s energy to power the processes and products that help you shine. We hope to install additional panels in the future to further reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. We also have an all-electric facility vehicle fleet with on-site EV charging stations, which our employees working to reduce their personal carbon footprints can also use.
A Brighter Future with PCR Bottles
By using Post-Consumer Resin (PCR) bottles, we help reduce our carbon footprint and keep plastic out of landfills and oceans, where it threatens the lives of marine animals. Here’s how we make our PCR bottles:
Recycled plastic bottles are repurposed, cleaned, chopped, melted and turned into plastic chips. Those chips become our 100% recycled bottles, each with its own unique shade and shine. They’re also recyclable, so they don’t have to get tossed in the trash when they’re empty.
We chose PCR for our bottles because it’s significantly less wasteful and damaging than virgin plastic or other new materials. It’s easier and lighter to transport than glass for lower greenhouse gas emissions.
