The Solaray Story: Our History, Our Heritage

The year was 1973.
Our founder, Jim Beck, returned from Vietnam plagued by a host of physical and mental ailments that medical professionals at the time couldn’t seem to address. He didn’t want to just accept that he might never feel like his old self again. So, he took his health into his own hands.
He began to research natural remedies and, through trial and error, developed unique herbal formulations. His efforts paid off: He noticed that these formulas had both an immediate and lasting positive effect on his overall well-being, and he knew they could help others, too. He set out on a mission to get his products into the hands of as many people as possible—to help everyone who wanted to, like him, forge their own path and find their way to wellness.
Solaray was born. He quickly turned most of his humble Utah home into a makeshift supplement production facility, creating 40 of the brand’s initial formulations right in his own living space.
Proud Pioneers
From the very beginning, Solaray has been a vanguard of the supplement space. In fact, when we started in 1973, we were the first brand to commercialize herbal blends in capsule delivery with cell salts.
A few years later, Solaray developed a groundbreaking formula for comprehensive prostate support. Then, in 1988, we pioneered cayenne cooling technology: By blending the herb with ginger and guar gum, we were the first to make cayenne feel cool in the stomach.
We haven’t stopped leading the way. In 2018, Solaray introduced the industry’s first vegan soft gel made with non-GMO tapioca starch and no carrageenan. And over the past five decades, our catalogue of supplements has grown exponentially, from those 40 herbal products to more than 700 best-in-class, cutting-edge vitamin, mineral, and herbal formulas, including countless award winners.
For example, our Mycrobiome line offers some of the most advanced probiotic supplements on the market. They all feature Solaray-developed Enteric Shield® VegCaps, which are specially designed to protect fragile probiotics from stomach acid during the digestive process, so they’re guaranteed to reach the gut safely and alive.
Our revolutionary new Liposomal Multivitamins—launched in 2022—are changing multivitamins for good: They’re designed for liposomal absorption and crafted using proprietary dehydrated liposome technology that works with convenient capsules.* We are the first supplement company to deliver true liposomal nutrients in this way.
