At Solaray, we’ve long known that supplements can play an extremely important role in health and well-being. After all, the company began when our founder, Jim Beck, returned from Vietnam feeling unlike his former self. He researched natural remedies and created herbal formulations that helped him find his way to wellness, and he knew these supplements could do the same for others. And they have—for over 50 years.
Much has changed in the world since our founding. In particular, the Standard American Diet has changed. We’re busier than ever before, so we rely on fast food and overly processed foods for convenience. They’re standard fare now, though this shift was just beginning half a century ago. What’s more, researchers have discovered that today’s soil isn’t as healthy as it used to be, leading to less nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables. (Read more here.)
In other words, we may not be getting all the vitamins and minerals we need from our diets alone.
Our Nutritional Needs, Brought to Light
That’s exactly why Solaray hosted our first-of-its-kind customized dining event called The Light House. We transformed New York City’s iconic Waverly Inn into an immersive, verdant experience to share this important message.
While there, attendees embarked on a journey of personalized nutrition. Each diner enjoyed an expertly prepared meal featuring specially chosen ingredients curated to their specific health interests. The dishes were made by best-in-class chefs, and the experience was guided and hosted by a registered dietitian who was available for consultations, as well as Max Willis, Solaray’s Chief Innovation Officer.
But there’s the rub. Even in such carefully and thoughtfully prepared dishes, nutritional gaps can remain, according to nutritionists. Even when we try to create the healthiest meals possible, they may only contain a fraction of the nutrients we need to stay feeling and functioning at our very best. (Not to mention, we may only absorb a portion of the nutrients they do offer.)
Of course, not everyone has the resources or time to create meals like we did at The Light House—and certainly not for every meal every day. That was the key takeaway of the evening: Nutritional gaps are much more common than we think. Though we strive to eat as healthily as possible, we may still be missing adequate amounts of the essential vitamins and minerals required for optimal wellness.
When Food Is Not Enough
After they finished eating, guests were invited to discover how much of a certain food they enjoyed that night they would need to eat to get the same amount of nutritional support offered by Solaray’s trusted formulas.
The Light House served to emphasize the critical role dietary supplements, particularly daily multivitamins, can play in wellness—the role they have in helping people everywhere Live Brighter and embrace the moments that matter most.
Since the event, you’ll hear us share this critical message often: Food Is Not Enough. In fact, it’s become a de facto tagline of sorts, harkening back to what has guided Solaray since day one. Smart supplementation matters. Along with a healthy diet, supplements offer the assurance we all need that our nutritional bases are covered and then some. They’re a way to help maximize our well-being and let our best self shine.
